Bridging the Success between High School and Future Pathways

Vantage Mentoring provides specialist academic capacity building for neurodivergent young people navigating the transition through high school and beyond. Founded by Medical Science and Medicine students, we bridge the gap between traditional tutoring and disability support. Our mentors focus on executive functioning, study-routine development, and sustainable independence, using a relatable, peer-led model that turns high school from a source of stress into a platform for growth.

What we do

Executive Function & Study Routine Development

We teach the student how to be a student. This includes mastering digital calendars, breaking down massive assignments into "micro-tasks," and managing the sensory overwhelm of the high school environment.

High School Transition Mentoring

A peer-led mentorship program where university students guide younger students through the social and structural changes of high school. We focus on building social confidence, self-advocacy with teachers, and the resilience needed to handle a more complex school day.

Cognitive Skill & Literacy Participation

We use school-based tasks as a tool to develop core functional skills like information processing, sustained attention, and self-regulated learning. Instead of tutoring, we provide Support for Participation. We help the student develop the resilience and self-advocacy skills needed to engage with the curriculum alongside their peers, reducing the social isolation caused by academic withdrawal.

Jason Liu | Director & Lead Mentor

As a Medical Science student at Griffith University with provisional entry to Medicine, Jason founded Vantage Mentoring to address the critical gap between classroom learning and functional independence.

With a background in academic leadership and a focus on cognitive capacity building, he oversees the strategic direction of our mentorship programs. Jason has over 2000 hours of personal mentoring and tutoring experience, which includes volunteering in leading a 300 mentor and mentee team at Brisbane State High School as a student for the Support for Academic Success program.

Jason is dedicated to providing neurodivergent young people with the relatable, high-level role models they need to master executive functioning and navigate the complexities of high school with confidence.

Frequently Asked Questions

We aim to address common concerns and queries that parents, caregivers, and educators may encounter.

Yes. Our services are designed as Capacity Building supports. We typically bill under Category 15 (Improved Daily Living) for Individual Skill Development and Training (Line Item: 15_037_0117_1_3). We can work with participants who are Self-Managed or Plan-Managed.

Traditional tutoring focuses on what to learn (curriculum content). Vantage Mentoring focuses on how to learn (functional capacity). We address the disability-related barriers—such as ADHD-driven task avoidance or ASD-related sensory overwhelm—that prevent a student from participating in school independently.

Our team consists of high-achieving University Students (primarily in Medical Science, Medicine, Engineering, and Education fields) from institutions like Griffith University, University of Queensland, Cambridge University, University of Melbourne and University of New South Wales. We select mentors who are not only academically elite but also relatable male role models who understand the social and structural challenges of modern high school.

Absolutely. We specialise in supporting young men with neurodivergent profiles. Our approach is grounded in Executive Functioning coaching, helping students develop the routines, time-management skills, and emotional regulation needed to navigate the Year 7–12 transition.

Safety and compliance are our priorities. Every Vantage Mentor holds a valid Queensland Blue Card (Working with Children Check) and have undergone extensive screening by the Vantage Team.

We offer flexibility to suit the student’s needs. Sessions can occur in the student’s home, at a local library, or online via a secure video platform. For Brisbane-based participants, we match you with a local mentor to ensure consistency and rapport.
